Text To Find Your Polling Place
- Created on 08 March 2012

If you live in Chicago and you don’t know where your precinct polling place is, the Chicago Board of Elections says there’s now an easy new way to find out. Just text the Board at 312-361-8846. In the message space, put the simple version of your home registration address, e.g., 1000 W. Washington — no ZIP code, unit number or city. The board’s computer then will text you back with the address of your polling place for the March 20 primary. Isn't technology wonderful?
The Cook County Board Vote Regarding Possible Merger Of Recorder Of Deeds Office With The County Clerk

I commend the Cook County Board of Commissioners for their decision to keep the Cook County Recorder of Deeds Office as a separate and stand-alone agency apart from the County Clerk’s Office.
As the Democratic Party’s slated candidate for Recorder in 2012, I felt compelled to share with the Board why I have decided to run for this office and the critical challenges facing Cook County property owners. I felt that several of the Board members were under the mistaken impression that merging these two offices at this critical juncture was a good idea. It isn’t and I am glad they realized that.
I told the Commissioners that the Recorder’s Office serves a critical role of ensuring the integrity of the land records system in Cook County. Cook County has the second highest volume of land records in the United States. I believe today the Commissioners recognized that a well-functioning Recorder’s Office has the potential to bring in significant revenue and, with future reforms that I plan to implement, the Office can significantly boost revenues for the County.
There are multiple challenges currently faced by property owners, like the thousands of false “robo-signed” documents in the system as well as the situation where lenders are not paying millions of dollars in title transfer fees and clouding the public record.
I believe that these and other challenges must be addressed before any consideration of a merger. I do, however, see significant room for improvement in the current Recorder’s Office. I plan to upgrade the Recorder’s Office through technology and improved training to better serve the taxpayers and to increase revenues and implement more efficient uses of the revenues generated.
Ultimately, we all want to do what is best for the taxpayers of Cook County. It just needs to be done in a way that will help the system, not hurt it.
